…is aimed at working with children who have been identified by the school to be in need of assistance in improving self-confidence, communication skills, improved self-efficacy, self- esteem and team work. The delivery is conducted by Dave Cassidy, who has worked in training and education for over 20 years. The start of the 8 session delivery is spread across the academic term calendar with year 6 participating in term 1 , year 8 in term 2 and year 7 in term 3.
The programme, funded by The Big Lottery Fund © , is delivered in after-school to school years 6, 7 and 8 comprised of eleven primary schools ( St James, Victoria Academy, Ormsgill, Cambridge Street, Greengate Street, Sacred Heart, St Pauls, South Walney, North Walney, St George’s and Barrow Island. Additionally delivery takes place in terms 2 and 3 with three secondary schools (Walney, St Bernard’s and Furness Academy) The programme offers a wide range of fun and challenging activities drawing on various learning styles. It also illustrates that everybody has a different skill set and transferable skills are essential in life for both school and work. The programme also includes half-term field trips of educational or self- improvement value.
The programme also provides mentoring for children in year six with adult mentors drawn from professionals in Industry and education to help children prepare for the transition to secondary school. Recently Inspiring Barrow have partnered with Furness College Media Department to provide their students work and project experience that will help their students gain their BTEC qualification.
